Parkland

Wednesday, November 26, 2014

Last weekend, 51 years ago, something happened that would change the course of American history and would remain as one of the most riveting tragedies (or conspiracies, if you're into that kind of thing) of all time: the assassination of President John F Kennedy.

My fascination with this subject matter has been on and off over the years - something somewhere will reignite my interest and I will obsessively read about it all over again, even when there are no new facts to be examined. Now I'm thinking of re-watching 'Parkland', a movie which was released during its 50th anniversary last year. The plot summarized by Wikipedia:

Parkland weaves together the perspectives of a handful of ordinary individuals suddenly thrust into extraordinary circumstances: the young doctors and nurses at Parkland Hospital; Dallas’s chief of the Secret Service; an unwitting cameraman who captured what became the most famous home movie in history; the FBI agents who were visited by Lee Harvey Oswald before the shooting; the brother of Lee Harvey Oswald, left to deal with his shattered family; and JFK’s security team, witnesses to both the president’s death and Vice President Lyndon Johnson’s rise to power.

Online reviews for the movie are so-so at best but personally, I quite liked it... maybe because I have a skewed interest in the assassination and its aftermath?

I think it's always tricky to create a movie based on something that everyone already knows the ending to, so the challenge is in trying to build the tension towards the ending... which the movie does pretty well, or is at least good enough for me. The movie is interlaced with actual footage from the event too! I like lah that sort of detail so don't mind me, please. Hehe.

If all of that does not spark any interest in you to watch the movie... ZAC EFRON IS IN THE CAST LAH HOW CAN YOU NOT TENGOK?! Haha! Honestly I wasn't a fan of Zac Efron when he was still a floppy-haired fetus in High School Musical (2006) but he caught my eye when he was in Hairspray (2007) and then officially sealed my love for him when he became a very convincing and charming delivery boy in New Year's Eve (2011). He is so yummy!!! If he was halal, mesti ZAC Butchery would've put him in their menu, mashaAllah banyak beristighfar sis.

Saliheen and I are taking a break from running home-related errands this weekend so I'm hoping to squeeze in some time to watch/re-watch some movies, including Parkland (He still hasn't watched it wtf)

Let me know if y'all have movie recommendations too! I particularly enjoy movies with dark humour, movies with quirky characters like The Grand Budapest Hotel or those based on history or true stories like Dallas Buyers ClubHotel Rwanda or Argo (even if they've been embellished by Hollywood)

The Travel Tag

Tuesday, November 25, 2014

Nurul a.k.a Wolvestruck tagged me for her The Travel Tag about a month ago so I thought I'd give it a go since I have some free time now. So hey ho, let's go?

✿ What made you start traveling?

History! I love learning about the history and culture of the cities I travel to, and how it co-relates to the history of my own life and culture. I also enjoy bumming at beach destinations as well, so these two are the reasons why I started travelling: History and The Art of Bumming. THE THIRST IS REAL YOU GUYS

✿ Where was your first plane ride to?

My first plane ride was on Garuda Indonesia to Indonesia when I was 11. My parents wanted to visit relatives so we took a flight out to Solo before continuing our journey via bus coach to Pacitan. That first experience was riddled with bad bumps and too much waiting but I dare say that was the moment in time when I fell in love with flying as a form of transportation - I'm one of those fanatics who would totally take a plane from Tampines up to Orchard Road if she could. Yes, I am that sort.

✿ Where have you travelled to that you would love to visit again?

Maldives, fo 'sho! My husband and I said that we'll go to Maldives for honeymoon once so we can concentrate on travelling to other destinations during our lifetimes but we didn't count on getting hooked!!! We harbour dreams of returning to paradise on Earth someday. In the meantime, you can read about our honeymoon here.

✿ What are 3 of your must have travel items?

My iPhone, my Canon Powershot G16 and my awesome Muji neck cushion, duh. (If you count passport and credit cards aside lah)

✿ Window, isle or middle seat?

Window seat for the win, yo. I loooooveee the parts where the airplane ascends and descends so I try to be by the window as much as possible. I find the feeling of going up into the air liberating, and I always feel fuzzy and relieved whenever the plane touches down on the ground. It's always a good feeling to know you've arrived at a new destination or knowing that you are safely and finally home :)

✿ What place is on your 'places to visit next' list?

So many! My husband and I have marked USA and South Korea as our next travel destinations, but he has been trying to float the idea of possibly going for Scandinavian and Tokyo trips as well. Gatal.

✿ Where would you travel just for the weather?

Anywhere in Europe, when it's transitioning from summer to spring! It's cold and lovely but you still get a little sun, which is the kind of weather I dig to the core of my being. I had a fantastic time in Europe during that period last May, and would kill to be in that sort of weather again. Except killing is a crime so I shall just relive my feels by re-reading my Eastern European holiday here aje lolz

✿ Do you have an interesting 'I'm lost' story?

Are you kidding me? Control freak me? Getting lost? While on holiday? Salah orang lah beb.

I am the most non-adventurous traveller ever so my major trips were arranged by travel agencies = minimal risk of getting lost. As for the trips I've DIY-ed, they were Southeast Asian trips where it's easier to move around in. I also triple check all my sources and bring along every helpful guide known to mankind whenever I travel so... mana ada time nak sesat, bradder.

✿ Where would you travel to just to eat the food?

Anywhere in Thailand for authentic Thai food! I am nuts about Thai food and as much as there are decent Thai food in Singapore, nothing can beat their true blue tom yam masam goodness! The food I've tried in Australia and European cities were interesting but unfortunately bland for my spicy Asian tongue.

Fun fact: I don't bring along chilli sauce or sambal on my travels because I personally feel that doing so would beat the purpose of truly experiencing other cultures' cuisines.

✿ Is there a place you would never go again?

I wouldn't say I will never go to a destination ever again because every single travel is a form of memory and learning opportunity, right? Maybe I'll have to change my answer to this if I ever travel to a place filled with rage and hatred in the future... which I hope never happens.

✿ If you could take one person with you to travel who would it be?

My husband! We complement each other in every aspect of our lives, and travelling is no exception.

Also, he is excellent with maps, directions, managing budget, trying out new cuisine and meeting new people - best travel companion ever.

✿ How do you pass the time on the airplane?

One of the things I love about taking flights is the fact that I can have a movie marathon! I'm not the sort who says "I look forward to sleeping on the plane!" because I don't. Not even when I'm tired prior to the flight! I try to go as long as possible without sleeping because I really want to cram as much movie watching as I can.

✿ Are there other people whom you think would do this?

Dear Dyan, ElziiiDistrict Diana, Jangan Panic & Living With Nyna! Everyone else is free to do this too :)

Konstruction Khronicles: Week 3

Monday, November 24, 2014

I know I aaaaalways sound excited about my renovation progress (that's because I AM) but I think this week was the absolute most exciting for Saliheen and I because our flooring and lighting were due to be up and running!!! Penting k these two! We had a ~pretty~ packed schedule last weekend so I nak sharing lah sikit what happened. Let's go in khronological order eh:

9.00am - Collection of Keys from HDB

Finally received confirmation from HDB that we can collect our key back from them so kita singgah sekejap in the morning! Quite relieved we didn't wait for HDB to lenggang kangkung buat our cement screeding works after knowing how terrible their service was (blogged here). If something as minor as returning our key took them one month and two phonecalls, what more something major like cement screeding??? Tak boleh harap betul.

10.00am - Contractor Appointment

We were the most excited for this OBVI!!!!! So much so that Saliheen and I tak boleh concentrate the whole week and keep whining ASAL LAMBAT NI NAK SATURDAY ASAL NI ASAL NI ASAL BELUM SATURDAY NI y'all wouldn't have wanted to be in the same house as us last week ah basically hahahaha

But you might like to be in the same house as us from this day onwards because our rumah dah ada flooring and toilet doors y'allz YAY YAY

Last picture is of my husband sweeping the floor for, oh I don't know... THE TENTH BILLIONTH TIME

Electrician came that morning as well to confirm the location of our lights and said he'll be done in 2 to 3 hours. Had plans immediately after that so we left, with the intention of returning to make sure the lights are in the correct places and working fine later that afternoon.

11.30pm - Purchase Dining Set from Comfort Furniture Design

Returned to Comfort Furniture to confirm our purchase of dining table and chairs! We went with our first choices - Norya for dining table, and Titus for dining chairs. Delivery will be in 2 weeks' time, which means we'll have our dining able and chairs ready for when we move in! This was quite important for us because we wanted a proper table that we can eat and work on.

We know we could have gotten similar chairs at a cheaper price elsewhere but we wanted the convenience of buying everything under one roof, we preferred Comfort's version (in terms of quality and ergonomics) and we really aren't willing to go through the online route. But in case anyone wants chairs like these but at a cheaper price (and by cheaper, I mean half price), you can get them at Star Living here (S$49.00) or Forty Two here (S$45.90)

1.00pm - Confirm Furniture Order for Second Charm

Since we didn't get lucky when we went to Second Charm last week, we attempted one more trip down to its warehouse to confirm our order for furniture. We spoke with Sharifah, the owner herself!

She was in a bit of a rush because she had to attend to three different sets of customers but we didn't mind because we already had time to speak to another guy Azmi and we've already considered the prices after our first trip to Second Charm. It was much quieter then. If you want to have a more relaxed visit, go on a Sunday afternoon instead of Saturday!

Second Charm will be customizing 4 pieces for us - two-seater sofa, one-seater armchair, a coffee table and a TV console! We opted for fabric instead of PVC for our sofa and armchair and the above swatches are the available colours, can you guess which colours we're going for?! Actually got more lah but this collection was the one yang memanggil kita hehe

Our orders will take about 6 to 8 weeks to process, which means we might have to do without any of those until end December/early January. Which is okay lah, duduk lantai pun tak mati pe. Unless your lantai ada onak dan duri ah then maybe you should reconsider your choices in life.

3.00pm - Lunch, Lights and then IKEA

Went for our lunch at Bagus and coincidentally Sham and Aisyah wanted to have lunch and come visit out unit if we were available. Since we wanted to go back to our unit to see the installed lights anyway it was perfect timing!

Tested (and squealed over) the lights then after dah lepak lepak for about half an hour, we made our way out. By pure coincidence, all of us wanted to IKEA after that so off we went lo! Aisyah saw and pointed out this LACK TV bench to us whilst there and we were very happy over this find lah!

Saliheen wanted to have a temporary tempat letak TV while waiting for our TV console from Second Charm, you see, and we also want to have an el cheapo bench to letak luar rumah. So I pun suggest - apa kata we purchase this LACK bench, use it for our TV then once our actual TV console arrives, we transfer the bench out to our corridor and buat as bench untuk orang duduk pakai kasut lor! It costs S$19.90 anyway, kalau disintegrate after a few weeks out in the corridor pun kita tak akan rasa sayang sangat.

10.00am - Late Night Visit With My Family

We wanted to return to our unit one more time after our IKEA trip because kita kemarok kita nak testing the lights again and see how our unit will glow at night pulak. Picked up my family first so we can show them our new home too :D

Soooooooooooo much love for our home during the night!!!!! During the day pun love jugak lah, this love for our home at night is a different kind of love k. Suuuuuper cosy, just like how we wanted it to be :D :D :D

No more major updates until next weekend because our contractor dah preempt yang carpentry will take some time. Pintu bilik might come in this week, though! Dah boleh main ketuk ketuk.

Anyway, just wanted to mark this next mini milestone with a mention: We've started packing our barang barang last Thursday! It's a little early but we'd rather slowly sieve through our belongings and decide which ones to throw or bring to our new home than to pack everything within one to two days. Hopefully the penat tak rasa sangat kalau buat slowly.

And talking about rasa rasa ni kan, friends have been asking if I dah start rasa emotional about moving out! Honestly, I still don't feel emotional or whatever, might be because I'm still too focused on the logistics of moving out to truly realize the implication of this next step I'm taking in life. We'll see how I fare on the first day away from my family and the very first place I know as home eh? (My parents tak pernah pindah rumah)

Mungkin my emotion receptor lambat activate lah, macam time I nak kahwing dulu. I didn't feel nervous or stressed during the weeks leading to my wedding but the minute I nampak my vendors masuk rumah 3 hours before the nikah, that's it, the gemuruh naik ke tengkorak masuk tekak lah siol.

Going Gong Gong!

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

Met our Bali+Gili geng last Saturday evening (after settling our home-related errands and attending a wedding) to discuss our itinerary and hype ourselves up for our holiday! Saliheen's parents were away so we hosted our friends at their place, and we agreed to cook dinner together before our discussion.

One of our friends even brought along gong gong ordered from Eating Crabs for us to masak! Which was awesome lah, because I was just whining to Saliheen a few days earlier about how I was craving for gong gong. Hehe. Super love the idea of a fresh seafood home delivery service and Saliheen and I are already dreaming of hosting a seafood party for our friends once we move into our new home.

With three supermarkets, Adam Halal frozen mart and Eating Crabs at our doorstep, we are set for homecooked food perangai budak gemuk world domination YOU GAIZE!!!!! Salted egg crab, chilli crab, black pepper crab, with siput sedut lemak, gong gong and kerang with sambal kicap at the side. And jangan lupa shucked oysters!!! Gooo~yang beb!

Anyway, can't believe we made our necessary bookings for our year end holiday 6 months ago, and now it is only 6 weeks away! Our itinerary has been firmed up - we've reserved Bali for partying and water activities whereas Gili will mostly be for relaxing. Our Bali+Gili geng will be sleeping over our new place the night before too so that'll be fun!

Kostruction Khronicles: Week 2 (Part 2)

Monday, November 17, 2014

As mentioned in my previous entry, air-con units already installed and all our rooms are painted! Even our storeroom, door frames and the top walls of our toilets pun dah kena painted seh. We didn't know our contractor was gonna do that so it was a pleasant surprise ❤

Other than that, newest progress for Week 2: Window grilles are up for our service yard! No window grilles for our living room and bedrooms because we don't see a need for them right now.

We also received deliveries for our kitchen hob, kitchen hood and oven from Universal Union and lights from Philips Concept Store (main dining) and New World Lighting (everything else) as well!!!!!

Should have taken a picture of our main dining light to tunjuk y'all, the actual thing turned out to be bigger than we remembered?!?!?! It didn't look as huge when we saw and bought it from the store last week seh. Hopefully it won't be too much of a distraction or hindrance for our guests who are tall haha.

Uncle in the above picture is our carpenter! He made his own drawings based on our requirements and his skill is really damn impressive lah! Dia draw berdiri lagi k. Just need to doa that his workmanship will be as impressive as his drawings. The other uncle in hot red shorts is my husband, of course, looking over our contractor (not pictured above) and our carpenter to confirm instructions and re-checking materials to make sure they match the flooring.

Saliheen and I were pretty amused with ourselves that day, by the way! You see, we couldn't remember the exact colours we chose for our kitchen cabinets, wash basin cabinets, build-in bed and wardrobe tau, but when our contractor asked us to finalize the colours, somehow we ended up choosing the same colours for everything!!!!! That is how much we know what colours we want for our home, and how predictable we really are as a couple lor. Lolz. Gotta admit, that made us even more confident of our choices. Very good feeling :D

Oh, and in case you thought flooring dan siap and we bentang carpet for our home already, not yet! Bawah carpet tu masih cement screed. That carpet is just a spare one we used to sit and wait for our contractor and suppliers. Will throw it away once the renovations are over and we no longer need it, or wash it and give it away to someone else.

Even though we had to be at our unit from about 10.30am to 3.00pm to wait for our contractor and deliveries that day, we had about an hour just before noon to turun bawah and beli drinks and snacks. And guess what lah, while we were walking towards the coffeeshop, we saw this!!!!!!!!!!

ZOMG SALIHEEN AND I ARE ECSTATIC BEYOND BELIEF LAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We didn't even know this shop existed in our new neighbourhood k!!! Walked in to check out their selection, and we were excited over everything. Glorious halal meats, rempah ratus and sauces, as well as barang goreng instant such as curry puffs, roti boyan, different types of nuggets, etc. Even has its own functioning website here.

Saliheen has grumbled before about not being 5 minutes away from Mustafa Centre once he shifts to Tampines so this is his rezeki, really!!! It's not open 24 hours lah, but at least dah tak susah cari barang masak for us. Not need to worry about travelling out too far to buy halal meat lo! This shop is exactly opposite our flat (we can see his shop from our living room) so kalau last minute nak masak and fridge takde ingredients pun takde hal bro, memang takde hal bro~

Chatted with the owner, and he was so friendly and funny! Next time kalau nak beli barang, pekik je nanti saya campakkan masuk rumah awak, he said. Hahaha! Macam dah biasa main discus throw je abang ni.

Our niat hati for the next day was to head over to Second Charm to confirm our order for customized furniture but this happened, of all days lah kan:

I don't know whether to laugh or cry or rasa geli hati or be incredulous because prior to our trip down to Second Charm, I made an off the cuff remark "Maybe we should check their Facebook... mana lah tau hari ni kedai dorang tutup"

But we were high on excitement lah, and somehow neither of us checked Facebook in the end LOLZ. Bila dah sampai and we realized the whole building was on shutdown, Saliheen (mock)chided me for "my mulut masin" lololololol. This is not the first time this has happened to us, by the way. Once in awhile I will tergerak hati and betul betul it will happen! Hahahahaha. Cuma other times tu, we called to check lah. This time, terlupa pulak hehehe

Of course we were super bummed about that initially, but it's okay lah, insya Allah we can attempt another trip this weekend pulak, after our contractor appointment in the morning. Our contractor dah janji that our carpentary works will be in progress and our flooring will be ready by this weekend so that's something to look forward to! Dah boleh bukak kasut to masuk rumah BEST NYA.

Kosmetik Korner: The Inspiration

Friday, November 14, 2014

Kitchen cabinet belum pun naik, flooring rumah belum pun selesai, but I dah start collect inspiration for my vanity corner! Very miang, I know :D

Granted I'm limited by the small space (I can't take over the whole room obviously, because Saliheen is going to flip. Like a prata. Because he is bulat. Like a prata) anddddd I have to work with mostly existing pieces but a liiiiittle berangan and inspirasi never hurt no minah, right?  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[Credit: All images are from Pinterest and Google Images, I was unable to trace the original sources because these images have been reposted by various blogs and sites]

I haven't really decided whether I want a regular large mirror or the kind which has LED bulbs all around but we'll see what happens when I make my next trip down to IKEA. I don't like the kerawang kerawang type so that style is definitely out lah.

I won't be buying a new table and chair as well since we don't have funds for frills like this after furnishing our new home with necessities! So I'll re-use what we have currently: the Micke desk from IKEA that Saliheen uses for his Playstation at the moment (He won't need it once we move to our new home)

For storage, it seems like IKEA's Nordli series are the most popular? I might have to make do without those first, for the same reason above. Maybe beli kotak kertas yang murah murah je dulu for storage, if I really need some.

I also already have a fairly large acrylic cosmetics holder and desk mirror with LED light (both from Howards Storage World) which you can see in my previous post here, but I think I'll need to get a couple of stuff from Muji and IKEA to complete the look. We've registered for Howards Storage World's private sale happening at the end of this month too, I'll see if there's anything that catches my eye!

Konstruction Khronicles: Week 2 (Part 1)

Thursday, November 13, 2014

I didn't want to post an update until after this Saturday (when most of the action will happen) but I really cannot help myself lah!!!!! Very kemarok level 1000 I know, but fellow homeowner friends told me this is perfectly normal?! So I am totally acting normal k. Don't kacau me k.

Was not expecting any further progress till this Saturday actually, but Saliheen and I decided to drop by our unit on Wednesday and Thursday "just in case" and what do you know - we can haz more progrezz!!!

AIRCON: Our Mitsubishi aircon units are all installed - this is via our contractor so we didn't care much about the technicalities, our only requirement was that it must not be Daikin. Anything but Daikin. Both our parents' homes uses Daikin and the aircon units keep breaking down every two to three months, even with proper maintenance and care wtf

L-SHAPED BOX: Our L-shaped box in the living room already done up! Looks better than we expected :D

GAS PIPES: Our gas pipes already installed - we were prepared to call for appointment and then apply for leave when the gas person comes to install but our contractor said he'll manage this part for us so Alhamdullilah!

WALL PAINT: Our living room, bedrooms and service yard all painted YAYYYAYAYYY! We looooove all the colours! Especially smitten kitten by the pastel salmon shade for our service yard pipes. Padahal pipes je tau hahahahaha

FRIDGE & WASHER: Fridge (Hitachi, S$969) and washing machine (LG, comes with dryer, S$695) already purchased from Mustafa Centre!!! We weren't that fussy about this either, asalkan the appliances can serve their functions, white in colour and cukup for the two of us, boleh lah tu. Our LG purchase even came with a free LG microwave so that's one thing off our appliance list YAY

No pictures for now because my iPhone takes really crappy and grainy pictures, but I'm sure I'll have prettier and clearer ones to share by the end of this week. Bila lah Saturday nak datang ni?!

Kosmetik Korner: The Beginning

Tuesday, November 11, 2014

I really like this idea of a lighted neon text a lot and have been holding on to this image since my wedding preparation days so that I can use it as inspiration! I was convinced that I would need to incorporate this feature into my new home... somewhere, anywhere,  EVERYWHERE!

But of course, as with all things berangan, I don't think Saliheen will layan me because... where the hell are we going to find these neon lights?! Even if we can find someone who can customize this for us, we'll probably have to pay for it through our noses (read: mahal gila sampai hidung berdarah tak henti). Also, the wiring for this thing punyalah busy. President of the United States pun tak busy gini seh.

Oh well... time to find a more practical project? I'm trying to find inspiration for my vanity corner by the way, we have a spare guestroom so I'm claiming a liiiiittle corner for my vanity needs hehe. I already have a cute quote in mind to print and put up on the wall, nanti dah siap I will share with y'all.

Konstruction Khronicles: Week 1 (Part 4)

Monday, November 10, 2014

Sukaaaaa sangat dengan last weekend.

Even though my otot otot dah mintak ampun and my back is breaking the bad, it is very puas hati to know that Saliheen and I managed to pack quite a number of our home-related errands over two days.

We started Saturday morning with an appointment with our contractor to run through the work done and to choose our paint colours! Terribly boring with our choices - Barely White for both bedrooms and Sail White for living Room (or the other way around) + (I think it was) Orchid White for service yard.

The electrician came down to the unit as well so after we confirmed all the electrical points, he got down to business and set up all the necessary wiring.

Our toilet bowls pun dah refixed and our water heater storage tank already installed! Brand for our water heaters is Ariston. Bukan kita pilih, memang freebie from our contractor so kita okay je.

Before and after installation. Gambar 'before' tu actually untuk tunjuk our new toilet flooring in daylight sekali hehehe

We were supposed to meet the carpenter to discuss carpentry works on that day too but he'll only be back in Singapore next week so bo pian lor, tunggu lor. We've already fixed for an appointment with him next Saturday so we've scheduled all of our deliveries (kitchen hood and hob, oven and lights) on the same day too. Sekali harung! Next week pergi new unit kena bawak khemah ni.

Philips Concept Store (Jalan Berseh Showroom)
Address: No. 1 Jalan Berseh Road, New World Centre, #01-16/17 Singapore 209037
Tel: 62995358
Operating Hours: -
Website: http://www.lightings.com.sg/

After we were done with our contractor appointment, we went to Jalan Besar lagi to finally decide on our main dining light. Jalan lima minit, found something we like from Philips Concept Store (we saw their selection from outside) and made our payment segala within 10 minutes. Senang and ringkas.

We chose the design yang black colour in this picture, but ours is wooden. Very sturdy! Costs about $400plus, which is within our budget. Woot woot. I actually prefer the one on the bottom left but the size is terlalu besar. Orang tinggal Jurong pun silau siol nampak lampu ni in our unit.

By the way, someone told us after that yang this Philips Concept Store is good but expensive! We don't mind the expensive part because memang kita dah nampak, kita dah berkenan, kita beli je lah. Asalkan bagus. Lagi lagi we didn't want to stress over the main dining light anymore! But just thought I'd mention the expensive part, in case anyone wants to buy from this store and nak tau whether mahal ke tak, in comparison with other lighting stores.

Star Living @ Paya Lebar
Address: 10 Eunos Road 8 #B1-12, Singapore Post Centre, Singapore 408600

Operating Hours: Weekdays: 12.00pm - 9.00pm, Weekends & PH : 11.00am - 9.30pm
Website: http://www.starliving.com.sg/

I came across Star Living punya nama in an online forum while looking for reviews on Comfort Furniture! Checked out their website and saw a few pieces yang macam promising gitu so we took a trip down.

Gambar rocking chair ni untuk kasi seri je. Takde kena mengena dengan kita nak beli ke tak nak beli haha! But comfy gila, you know. Sayang the colours won't go too well with the concept we have in mind.

Anyway, our window-shopping experience in Star Living was not too bad. The designs are decent, and prices are most definitely affordable. The staff pun tak membontot so you can browse in peace, but they're always nearby if you need help.

We considered a few of their pieces but nothing really stood out to us, though. Some of the items nampak cantik on website but looks and feels meh bila in real life - one of the factors why we're not too keen to purchase furniture from online sites. Takut indah khabar dari rupa, you know.

Went to Courts and IKEA in the evening to look see look see lagi but nothing caught our fancy.

Comfort Furniture
Address: 110 Eunos Ave 7, Comfort Design Building, Singapore 409573
Tel: 6747 7217 (office) 6747 4809 (showroom)
Showroom Hours: Mon to Sat: 9.00am - 6.00pm, Sun & PH: 10.00am - 6.00pm
Website: http://www.comfortfurniture.com.sg/

Next day, we keluar rumah bright and early to check out another furniture store, Comfort Furniture, which was a recommendation from Kak Amilia from Facelift Design! We checked their website first but website takde letak harga so we used their wishlist function to submit a list of our preferred items for quotes dulu. Got a reply the next day, prices were within our budget so we paid their showroom a visit.

Saliheen really took a liking to chairs yang ada "black cross cross" wtf I have no idea why.

Honestly, we were more attracted to the pieces in Comfort Furniture than in Star Living! Macam lagi lawa and quality lagi satisfactory? Idk. Price-wise, Comfort lagi mahal than Star Living but generally still affordable lah. Service pun okay, nobody bothered us while we were browsing. Tu penting k! I always pangkah stores whose salespeople cannot back off and masih suka menyebok even after we tell them we don't need their assistance at the moment.

Second Charm

Tel: 62942919 / 96289171
Operating Hours: Tue - Sat: 11.00 am - 5.30 pm, Sun: 12.00pm - 5.00pm )
Website: http://www.secondcharm.net/

Next we went to Second Charm!!! We wanted to go Second Charm last month actually but missed it out because of a silly miscommunication. Sekali last Sunday bila kita stepped into their showroom, it was LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT FOR SALIHEEN LOR. Dengan aku, dia tak fall in love at first sight tau, tapi dia boleh fall in love at first sight dengan kedai furniture ni!!! BRENGSEK.

If you see basah basah kat lantai Second Charm, suspect kuat it is Saliheen's air liur. Member drool over the pieces tak agak agak siak.

But I can understand why he is so enamored, this place is really... charming lah. Worth a visit, especially if you're into restored vintage / mid century modern furniture pieces. I was also telling Saliheen how it felt like we were being welcomed by friends the minute we stepped out of the lift and walked towards their warehouse because it has a very chillax and cosy vibe. And the people we talked to there were so warm and friendly! Their prices pulak are a little more than we anticipated to pay but dengan Saliheen punya mata dah keluar heart heart.......... anything can happen, you guys.

October 2014 Weddings

Wednesday, November 5, 2014

Better get cracking on my October 2014 wedding invitations post before the November ones start streaming in!

11th October 2014 was reserved for Ili's wedding, of course, and she is none other than the blogger behind Eleventh October, and also one of the bloggers I've had the privilege of knowing and befriending during my Kahwin Khronicles journey! Her wedding was mostly DIY and so lovely!!! She and her husband really got so much patience and creativity lah, I really tabik! If you nak see more of her wedding while waiting for her blog posts, you can check out her official wedding Instagram here

Oh, and as you can see, I kamchengho with the other bloggirls to meet at her wedding to makan and take pictures sama sama! So much love for these girls even though kita asalnya jumpa kat internet hehe. I know mak bapak always say jangan kawan sembarang sembarang kat internet but that pesanan tak pakai k, if they make nice and funny friends like these girls! (FYI: My bridesmaids were also my Internet friendz)

We had another wedding invitation on the 18th October 2014 but I didn't take pictures because I didn't know anyone there (Saliheen's relative punya jemputan) so malulah konon.

Lepas tu, the next weekend baru the highly anticipated 25th October 2014 came along so Saliheen and I geared up for a super long and tiring day!!! Kenapa anticipated??? Sebab itu lah hari yang kita ada four wedding invitations, beb. Orang lain go for movie marathon, kita go for wedding marathon, beb.

Here is a gambar of the invitation cards sebagai evidence!!!!!

First up was Shahirah of My Wed Dreams punya wedding! Hers was the easiest because she lives one street away from me hehehe. Selamat pengantin baru, babe! Sorry I is very macam penyamun, secret secret ambik gambar dari tepi.

Next up was my primary school girlfriend Dian, who held her wedding at Singapore Silat Federation, which was where Saliheen and I held our wedding one year ago. She even engaged the same caterers as us, which was the awesome Puteri Wedding Services YUM YUM.

After that, we drove all the way to Bukit Timah CC...

... to attend the most gorgeous wedding I've been invited to in 2014!!! Ahhhhh, everything looked so dreamy! I've always known that Nina has impeccable taste so I didn't doubt that her wedding was going to be one of my favourites.

With the talented Elly Weddings as her decor, Ishq By Nora Zee for her make-up and sanding outfit, a gorgeous Nurita Harith piece, and the established Haji Abu as her caterers, it's no wonder her wedding was an absolutely beautiful success. Can't wait till she's back from her honeymoon so we can talk about her wedding in detail!

I still kick myself for not being able to be there at her nikah (because the timing clashed with the two previous weddings I had to attend in the East) but it was great to see her and her Baobei beaming endlessly with love and pride on her gorgeous pelamin, and to be able to catch up with some of our closest friends and their babies. Oooh, and with my favourite MUA of all times too, of course! Love you to bits, Kak Nora!

Anyway, if you can't get enough from Nina's wedding's Instagram hashtag #sayangbaobei, she also blogs here

We took a breather at my in-law's place for a quick half an hour shower and change of clothes then made our way down to Japanese Garden Rest House for the last wedding of the day.

Nice intimate wedding dinner at an outdoor park hosted by Saliheen's friend from CJC. Pretty reception but the jalan masuk was suuuuuper lengit. I came mentally prepared because I've been to one other wedding here before but Saliheen and another couple we went with couldn't believe how much we had to walk and kena naik bukit segala lolz. Macam mana lah nak jadi juara panjat bukit gini.

Anyway, on our way back home on that day, Saliheen and I couldn't help but marvel in disbelief at how we spent 10 freaking hours just attending weddings hahahahaha. HARDCORE SIOL!

As for the month of November, we already have four wedding invitations but thankfully they're not all in the same day eh. Kalau semua sama hari, memang aku macam nak throw in the towel and seal up aku punya mailbox dengan cement.
