Have A Steamy Chinese New Year

Thursday, March 10, 2016

Quick update on the lunch that Saliheen and I had with our friends over the long Chinese New Year weekend! We had a steamboat session because, duh, it's Chinese New Year, why in the world would we eat anything else?!

Nad brought a huge tupperware of her yummy homemade orange chicken salad, Nina brought kueh pie tee and sedap gila popiah basah and all of us bought meat and seafood from ZAC Butchery and Deli (as recommended by Nani) for the seafood and grill lunch session over at my place. Char kway teow by my husband, who is ridiculously good at cooking food that he is obsessed with, whereas I made soup bases; guests could choose either Chinese ginseng soup or tom yam.

I really love lunches like these, where everything feels very gotong royong and there are no frills to fret over. Just good food and good company, you know? Oh, it was also on this day that I finally know how it feels like to have sambal belacan burning in my eyes because someone *cough Nad cough* had no decency to screw the cap of the sambal bottle properly.

But at least she had the smarts to score a shiny new tunang (Hi Ridzwan!) who is awesome and techie and generous enough to help us set up a shiny new Netflix account!!!!! Aku and laki aku damn noobies ok, we didn't know we could've just done it ourselves in 10 minutes via his PS4 haha. But whatever, no matter, just look at us now! We have Netflix in our home! At only S$13 per month! Nasib baik mata tak buta from the sambal belacan seh, kalau buta macam mana nak tengok Netflix??? I pun nak tau seh apa rasa Netflix and chill #ohtakeh

'Tis the Musim for Turkey and Friends

Monday, December 14, 2015

Saliheen and I ordered Whole Roasted Turkey with Stuffing and Premium Roasted Beef Ribeye from ZAC Butchery online and had them delivered to our place for a get-together with our friends during the weekend! It was our first time ordering cooked items from them but no regrets sebab the food was sedap!!!!! Especially their roasted beef ribeye, it was the star of the day lor. I am still dreaming of its fatty lemak lemak..........

Nina also brought along bowls of cheng tng from the famous Bedok Corner stall and her homemade potato salad, which was so yummy, it should also be sold at some famous stall in some corner la!!!!! Preferably the corner of my house so aku boleh gorge on her potato salad any time any day haha! Anyway, kita belum sempat baca doa makan, kita dah run out of potato salad seh (Aku exaggerate tahap bedek pls). Next time must ask her to bawak her potato salad dalam satu baldi besar. The kind yang orang kampung use to store air mandi hahahaha

A Weekend of Plaster Blaster and Cards Against Humanity

Monday, October 12, 2015

Everyone and their mothers have been posting about plaster blaster from Springleaf Prata Place on Instagram and I was so convinced that it is easy to put together at home! Ownself do ownself, you know!

In case you've been living under a tempurung katak without Internet connection, this is how it looks like - it's really just prata with poached eggs with hollandaise sauce on top. Senang cakap it's hipster prata la lolol

Turns out that it is... sort of easy but not really that easy at the same time :P

The frying of instant prata pusar and chicken ham was easy gila obviously, but the hollandaise sauce and poached eggs were a little trickier. I used the recipe for hollandaise sauce from here, and Saliheen made the poached eggs using method #3 from hereBehold, our masterpiece..... (I had 4 of these)

Also made sambal ikan bilis and chicken curry to accompany our ~glorious~ array of plain prata pusar, coin prata, egg prata and cheese prata. We even topped the day off by playing the fire noodle challenge hahaha! Let's just say no apologies were made to our poor tummies and calories-stuffed arteries that weekend hehehe #sorrynotsorry

Special shout out to the chicken curry, which I made from scratch for the first time :D Recipe is from Liyana because I loved her curry when I was over at her KL apartment in June and tried it with our roti canai breakfast. Not my mum's recipe this time because hers is more melayu than Indian, if that makes sense :P

Spent the rest of the afternoon playing Cards Against Humanity with our friends and it was HILARIOUS!!!!!!! I always laugh so hard whenever I play this game!!! I am now convinced that Saliheen and I are horrible people who have horrible friends HAHAHAHAHA!!! Definitely not intended for the easily offended or those who don't appreciate dark humour #wecantbefriends

Saliheen and I first played this card game at a friend's cafe (check out Afterwit, you guys!) and had a riot (the good kind) so we wanted our own set to play with friends at home. I wasn't sure how to purchase it online (since their official website does not post to addresses in Singapore) and I was suspicious of the authenticity of the sets sold on Carousell so in the end I tried my luck with local toy and merchandise stores.

Turns out Toy Outpost in Bugis Junction sells the whole range - the main set costs S$35.00, extension packs 1 to 5 costs S$13.00, extension pack 6 costs S$14.00 and the Bigger Blacker Box set costs S$25.00. Kalau you cheapskate, actually you boleh print je la from their official website. Free, beb.

Hari Raya Dah Habis La

Tuesday, September 29, 2015

Long time no blog!

My blogging mojo is really perangai biskut seh, kejap ada kejap takde. I didn't have the inspiration to blog because firstly, I've been really busy at work and home (always like this at end of the year!) and secondly, I was (kind of) jaded with blogging and social media.

I won't elaborate too much on the second point; I was just trying to limit my usage and minimize the negative feelings I had against it and its users. I still used social media la, I never really went away or anything, but I just didn't want to blog the thoughts I had because of it. Maybe not yet. Or maybe never!

Trying to restart my blogging mojo so I'll start with the latest pictures I have in my phone. Saliheen and I took leave on Friday so we had a good and long Hari Raya Haji weekend to meet our families and friends

Ok fine, I only have 2 pictures from Hari Raya Haji - one with my sisters, and one of my favourite little boy Chah Inn, who wailed and cried bloody murder because his brother and my sisters took a picture without him lolol I wish I had his problems! #kidlogic #kidproblems

The rest of the time we stuffed ourselves with good old Malay raya food, both at his side and mine. Perut kembung sampai sekarang, beb. Recycled my one-piece baju raya because I knew that was gonna happen. Note to self: Buy a black loose fitting jubah for occasions like Hari Raya Haji and other majlis!

Posting pictures from Hari Raya Haji just made me realize I didn't blog about our Hari Raya Aidilfitri festivities few months prior! Shall I use this entry as an excuse to post outdated pictures hwa... hwa... hwa..........

Kept our baju raya cheap and simple, the way we like it, because we value comfort over anything else! It was our first Ramadhan and Hari Raya in our own home and it was very enjoyable - picking out our first lampu lap-lip, ordering kuih raya (Makcik pro tip: order kuih raya 1 month in advance!!!) and having our relatives and friends over for Raya celebrations. Ramadhan was lovely too, we managed to cook for most of our sahurs and iftars, didn't miss any sahurs, went for terawih together and hosted several iftar sessions.

(Love my lipstick in the last picture! It's NARS Audacious Lipstick in Vera. Damn solid.)

We had full bird's eye view of SG50 fireworks which set off in front of our friends' new house during one of the raya visits! How lucky! I'm not a sucker for fireworks but I have to admit the ones we saw that day were sooooo pretty ♥ Saliheen and I also visited his cousin's place one of the Raya days and his cousin and wife dah macam ada cat cafe kat balcony rumah la sia. Gerammmmm!!!!!

We entertained the idea of getting a cat as our house pet but some of our friends said I won't be able to clean the cat's poo once I get pregnant in the future (something about parasitic infection???) and can you believe it - betul betul during Hari Raya Haji, my cousin's cat berak inside the toilet just before I needed to use it and the stink was nauzubillah min zalik! Nak kena beli gas mask dulu ni sebelum beli kucing haha.

But aku seriously berangan je k. Taik baby aku belum nak handle, ada hati nak handle taik kucing. Cis!

Selesai Sudah Si Bulan Syawal

Tuesday, August 26, 2014

Aaaaannddd we're done with another year of Syawal.

Some snippets of our Raya celebrations this year for memories sake!

I'm in the midst of privatizing my blog entries from the past 12 years (more on this in another entry) and came across tons of Raya pictures from past celebrations that I've forgotten about! So I figured I should post up some pictures from Raya 2014 so I can laugh at them di tahun 2024 kelak. Hehe.
